SEEDS
I wrote the song Seeds the night of Van Stephenson's funeral. I became close friends with Van and his wife, Karen while both Van and I battled cancer. Van and Karen hosted a weekly Bible study that shaped the way I chose to approach my healing, and ultimately my life. Van gave me lasting advice that to this day reminds me to remain exactly who I am, musically and otherwise. Van died three days after calling me to let me know he had chosen to "go on". They invited me out to the house and while we sat out on the deck, he explained that when he told God he was ready, he just kept waiting to stop breathing. He said he then realized that he could not find it within himself to let go of faith in God's healing. I believe it was this relentless conviction that took Van home to the Healer!
As I was writing this song, my heart opened up to writing, for the first time about the loss of my little brother, Michael. It has since become about so many others who have been so inspirational in my life.
